Job Description:

Summary: The Account Executive / Category Analyst increases DPI sales by facilitating, prospecting, and marketing perishable and dry products to customer buyers and managers. This includes monitoring inventory and customer performance related to products, items, promotions and sales; communication of all facets of business with sales and customer service personnel including providing recommendations to the VP of sales for all aspects of vendor negotiation.

The candidate should have the experience and ability to read and decipher syndicated data from IRI, Nielsen and SPINS in order to seek out sales opportunities to grow DPI's and its Customer's business.

The Account Executive / Category Analyst coordinates promotional activities and assists with resolution of billing discrepancies. The ideal candidate displays exemplary organizational and communications skills in order to develop, nurture and maintain vendor and customer relationships. Additionally, the Account Executive / Category Analyst should be proficient in power point application with the ability to create presentation decks. In conclusion, the Account Executive / Category Analyst must project a positive image to DPI vendors and customers (internal and external) in a manner that adheres to DPI policies, procedures and expectations.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Drive product sales at customer sites.
Analyze current market trends utilizing syndicated data and ad hoc reports for all categories to evaluate and make recommendations for sales optimization.
Build professional and creative presentation decks for any and all accounts working either alone, or with input from other Account Executives.
Monitor and analyze specific category performance related to sales, promotional activity, inventory, order discrepancies, out of stock, and shortage reports. Review performance with Account Executive and vendor/broker partners; respond effectively to customer issues and concerns.
Communicate all facets of business with DPI sales and customer service personnel in a timely manner in order to promote DPI sales.
Review data and prepare recommendations to the Account Executive and Director of Sales for all aspects of vendor negotiations including itemization, promotional planning, advertising, display opportunities and margin maintenance.
Develop, nurture and maintain positive working relationships with DPI associates, customers and vendor partners.
Complete various paperwork and reports including new item, promotional and distribution forms accurately and timely; prepare and review demonstration and advertising support schedules and contracts.
As applicable, prepare and deliver necessary samples, coordinating paperwork and presentations to customers' offices, or in field at retail stores.
Attend new store openings, remodels, and re-grand openings as applicable. Potential to visit any DPI Customer accounts, as well as competition in marketplace.
In-market store tours at pertinent competition, reviewing itemization and merchandising vehicles.
Consistent review of social media seeking to find trending items which may be going viral on social media platforms.
Schedule consistent meetings with primary Account Executive, along with applicable Buyer, at Customer Headquarters.
Presentations of new items in conjunction with identifying voids across the category.
Coordinating with Account Executive to maximize vendor promotions in an effort to stimulate sales growth across the category.
Coordinate with DPI National Directors for item presentations to applicable customer Category Managers at Corporate office.
Direct vendor interactions in an effort to stay ahead of any and all market trends. Obtain information via meetings, trade shows, and from retail market visits.
Operate personal vehicle to travel to/from customer locations throughout assigned territory.
Attend training and meetings in accordance with DPI standards.




Other Duties and Responsibilities:

May assist with resets and merchandising of equipment including setting up and taking down displays and promotional arrangements.
Maintains a clean work environment, may include picking up trash or cleaning spills.
Other duties may be assigned to fulfill DPI's objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: A bachelor's degree is preferred, along with 3-5 years of sales related experience (distribution, retail, brokerage or manufacturing). The Account Executive / Category Analyst must possess advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point).



The Account Executive / Category Analyst must possess the following specific characteristics for success in this position:

Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills in English.
Proficiency in reading, analyzing and deciphering syndicated data for effective category management.
Strong ability to communicate with various levels of management with a high degree of professionalism.
Able to work independently and collaboratively with team members and all levels of management.
Candidate must be a self-starter who is proactive in facilitating all company initiatives.
Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills demonstrating a strong work ethic and the ability to lead, teach and motivate others.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.



Work Environment: The work environment is typically indoors at customer sites. There is exposure to weather when traveling and getting in and out of the vehicle.



Work Hours: The work schedule is 5 days per week, 8 hours per day. Initial start time may vary, with work hours typically from 8am-5pm. Work hours and shifts are subject to change depending on operating business conditions and needs. The employee may be required to work overtime and holidays or weekends. Overnight travel may be required.



Physical and Mental Demands: Light. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work involves frequent sitting, but may involve walking or standing for significant periods of time.
