Brookfield Capital Markets

Brookfield's Capital Markets organization is responsible for managing the relationships with the banks and debt capital markets to ensure we maintain strong access to capital. The function takes ownership for the consistent application of our funding principles to ensure we finance the business in a sustainable manner, minimizing future potential liquidity events.

The Role

The Vice President, Capital Markets, will be responsible for providing day to day oversight and support for financing and capital markets activity and for the coordination of this across the Business Groups. This will include managing Brookfield's balance sheet, liquidity, risk management and access to capital. Incumbent will also collaborate with our Investor Relations teams. This role will report to the CFO of Brookfield and will be part of Brookfield's Management Group ("BMG"). BMG is responsible for the management of corporate activities and the leadership of alternative investment activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with members of Brookfield's senior management team, key finance and business leaders, and important outside service providers (banks, other financial institutions, lenders, investors, credit rating agencies, accounting and legal advisors);
  • Work with the capital markets teams across the Business Groups to provide oversight and ensure there is active communication to allow for consistency and best practices;
  • Partner with the corporate treasury team to understand the liquidity plan, potential financing needs and plan accordingly;
  • Lead communications and discussions with the rating agencies to manage Brookfield's credit rating across debt and preferred securities;
  • Provide oversight of the middle office function within our rates and FX treasury function;
  • Play a key role in managing Brookfield's banking relationships (act as central point of contact for Brookfield, maintain open lines of communication through regular dialogue, etc. to ensure we optimize our partnerships);
  • Responsibility for the structuring, syndicate selection and execution of the financings for the public company;
  • Stay current on capital market conditions affecting our businesses and assess whether indicative pricing indications are reasonable and react appropriately; and
  • Continuously analyze and assess the underlying capital structure of our businesses knowing how to proactively address needs as they arise;
  • Work closely with BAM IR team on the following:
  • Public Messaging (verbal and written)
  • Managing the equity analysts (modelling and key messaging)
  • Prospective shareholder identification
  • Creation of marketing strategies

Requirements:

  • Degree in finance, accounting, or related business discipline;
  • CA designation preferred;
  • Eight + years of experience in Finance (treasury, corporate finance, capital markets, accounting, reporting, forecasting, tax);
  • Advanced Excel skills;
  • Clear track record of executing financing initiatives for an organization with experience in the capital markets;
  • Investor Relations experience a plus;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, global environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities;
  • Analytic and strategic thinker with the ability to assess complex situations and make effective recommendations;
  • Excellent organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines;
  • Proactive self-starter who is able to handle pressure effectively and has experience working with senior management teams;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a particular strength in dealing with a wide variety of individuals at various levels within and outside of the organization;
  • Track record of developing a broad network with external stakeholders, for example credit rating agencies, legal advisers, external auditors, and banks; and
  • Team-oriented; demonstrates a commitment to shared success above any personal accomplishment or recognition.
