Associate Counsel - Labor & Employment Overview: CRST, a national leader in the transportation industry, is looking for an experienced legal professional who is highly knowledgeable and equally passionate about employment matters. CRST is seeking an attorney with a minimum of three (3) years of experience, with substantive labor & employment and litigation experience in a corporate legal department and/or recognized law firm. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), be agile and adaptable, and be able to exercise sound legal and business judgment in a fast-paced environment. This position is based in primarily in Ontario, CA and the surrounding area, including Chino and Jurupa Valley (remote workers who are able to spend a significant amount of time in Ontario/Chino/Jurupa Valley will also be considered). Proficiency in Spanish is a plus. This position will report to CRST's General Counsel (located in Cedar Rapids, IA). Periodic travel will be required. Job Description: The successful candidate will provide advice and counsel to HR professionals and other business partners throughout the company. They will function as the subject matter expert on all labor and employment-related matters, monitoring and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies. They will work closely with outside counsel and will represent CRST at legal proceedings, professional meetings, administrative hearings, and /or mediations - as assigned. They will help manage and support both basic and complex employment-related litigation and will advise on and/or conduct internal investigations. They will support budget responsibilities. The successful candidate's prior experience will encompass all major federal employment laws (e.g., Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, WARN) and California state and local counterparts (e.g., FEHA, CRFA, PDL), we well as California wage and hour compliance (e.g., California Labor Code, AB5, PAGA) and EEO compliance. Prior experience developing and leading employment law training and drafting employment law policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws is strongly preferred, as is prior experience conducting and training other professionals on internal investigations. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, yet as part of a team. They must possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather and weigh facts and information from many sources, draw conclusions and make recommendations to the General Counsel and/or other business or functional leaders. They must be able to work effectively with individuals at all organizational levels, both internally and externally, and assess business risk in varying situations to be able to make associated recommendations to minimize overall risk to the company. The successful candidate must be able to work on/manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work with interruptions and meet established deadlines.
