Description
Position Title: Network Engineer
Role Summary: The Network Engineer is responsible to ensure the
stability and integrity of in-house voice, data, video, and
wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing,
and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks
(WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer
will be involved with the installation, monitoring, maintenance,
support, and optimization of all network hardware, server
infrastructure, software, and communication links. This individual
will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software support
problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user
training where required.
What You'll Do:
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with Network Operations Manager, executive
management, and department leaders to assess near- and long-term
network capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network
configuration, network mapping, processes, and service
records.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and
associated training plans for network administration, usage, and
disaster recovery. Acquisition & Deployment
- Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks,
including firewalls, servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and
other hardware.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and
standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking
industry.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software
upgrades.
- Develop and manage relationship with vendors, outsourcers, and
contractors to secure network products and services. Operational
Management
- Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable
operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as
needed.
- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and
troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and
peripheral devices.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations,
telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network
appliances.
- Manage servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup
servers and their associated operating systems and software.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of
network component inventory and related documentation and technical
specifications information.
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network
performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
- Manage and/or provide guidance to other members of the
team.
- Work with aging infrastructure that is looking to be updated
but will need to work on continuing to support that old technology
while we phase it out, such as Ruckus and Dell equipment.
- Work with OT (Operation Technology) partners and integrate
solutions with best security practices to protect the OT
environments. Qualifications
What You'll Need
- University degree in the field of computer science or a
combination of industry networking certifications, and/or
equivalent related work experience of 6 years or more.
- Networking experience separate from technician point of
view.
- Strong knowledge of implementing advanced routing protocols
(OSPF, BGP etc.).
- HPE experience highly desired, HPE Networking Certifications a
plus.
- Knowledge of FortiGate Firewalls and SD-WAN Configuration with
IPsec Tunnels.
- Knowledge of Aruba switching and wireless, including Aruba
ClearPass and using Intune with certificate deployments, as well as
implementing RADIUS and TACACS.
- Familiarity with aging infrastructure, such as Ruckus and Dell
equipment, and ability to work with and support these systems while
phasing them out.
- Experience working with OT partners and integrating solutions
with best security practices to protect the OT environments.
- Knowledge of wireless Ethernet technologies (802.11ax,
802.11ac, 802.11n, and 802.11g).
- Knowledge of 1, 10, and 50Gbps Ethernet and Single-Mode and
Multi-Mode differences.
- Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware and
standards.
- On-call availability for 24-hour call rotation in a production
environment.
- Willingness to travel onsite to remote locations.
- Strong understanding of project management principles.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the
ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and
products as required.
- Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to
detail.
- Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving
abilities.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a
high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work under pressure with a diverse team.
